Hyderabad, Sept. 4: Man was arrested by Narayanguda Police on Thursday, September 3, for allegedly stealing laptops from study halls and selling them for parts.
Narayanguda Detective Sub Inspector Ch Nagaraju said the main accused, 29-year-old Sangishetty Vineeth, posed as a student to enter study halls and steal laptops left unattended during breaks.
According to police, Vineeth allegedly stole 19 laptops worth around Rs 7.6 lakh within one month. He reportedly targeted study halls near Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology (KMIT) and the Telugu Academy area under Narayanguda police limits.
Laptops Stolen From Study Halls Sold to Repair Business Owner
Police said Vineeth allegedly sold the stolen laptops to 29-year-old Vemunuri Srinivas, who runs a laptop repair business.
The police recovered all 19 laptops and submitted them to the court as evidence.
The investigation began after a complaint from V Suresh, who said his laptop was stolen from the Bright Minds Study Hall on August 16.
According to his complaint, Suresh had been studying at the facility and left his cabin at around 7 pm for dinner. When he returned about an hour later, he found that his laptop was missing.
Following the investigation, police apprehended the two accused near Parsigutta on Thursday.
Police said the accused are allegedly involved in 16 cases registered across the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Commissionerates.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were involved in other similar laptop thefts.
