Internet, July 23: Tensions between Iran and the United States escalated further on Thursday as Iranian officials issued fresh warnings following continued US military strikes and President Donald Trump’s recent threats over attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest exchange of statements comes amid heightened conflict in West Asia and growing concerns over regional security.
Escalating Rhetoric Amid Ongoing Conflict
According to Iranian state affiliated media, senior figures linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that continued hostilities could have severe consequences for the United States. The reported remarks referenced the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks while warning of possible future retaliation.
The statements have not been independently verified.
Earlier, President Trump said the United States would target Iranian infrastructure if Iran attacked commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also said the Strait of Hormuz would remain secure only if US forces stayed away from the region. In remarks shared on social media, he criticised the US military presence and reiterated Iran’s position on regional security.
Meanwhile, the conflict has widened after Yemen’s Houthi movement announced restrictions on shipping through the Bab el Mandeb Strait and claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi oil tankers.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said its recent military operations are intended to degrade Iran’s military capabilities and protect international maritime navigation.
