The IS Sadan Division office was opened in Hyderabad as part of the Congress party’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the Old City ahead of the GHMC elections. Hyderabad District Congress Committee President Syed Khalid Saifullah inaugurated the new office, calling it a key organisational step to revive the party in areas that have remained neglected for years.
The inauguration marked a visible push by the Congress to expand its grassroots structure in the Old City. The event was attended by Yakutpura Assembly constituency in charge K Ravi Raj. Senior party leaders Bheem Arjun Reddy, Kotla Srinivas, and Krishna Kumar were also present, along with party workers and supporters from the area.
Addressing the gathering, Syed Khalid Saifullah said the IS Sadan Division office was only the beginning of a wider plan. He said the Congress would soon open similar offices in all 44 wards under the Hyderabad DCC. He explained that the move was part of a planned organisational restructuring to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. “This is part of a planned organisational restructuring aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots level. Our focus is clear – we want to reconnect with the people of the Old City, understand their issues, and ensure that their voices are represented in governance,” Khalid said.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad DCC is preparing for the upcoming GHMC polls. Khalid said the party received an overwhelming response to its online application process for party posts. Thousands of applications were submitted before the January 4 deadline. He said this response showed growing enthusiasm for the Congress under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
Later, Khalid confirmed that the party would soon hold a detailed strategy meeting. The meeting will focus on ward level preparations. He also said welfare schemes implemented by the Congress government were already showing results in the Old City. “Over 70% of the Old City’s population is now benefiting from key initiatives such as free bus travel for women, the distribution of new ration cards, free fine rice, and other welfare schemes. These are not just promises – they are realities that are changing lives,” he said.
He also spoke about efforts to fast track the long delayed Old City Metro Rail project. “For decades, the people of this area were ignored. Now, under the Congress government, we are seeing meaningful development begin,” Khalid added. He said the party aimed to rebuild trust and re establish itself as a credible force in the Old City.
