Hyderabad, Sept 2 (Maxim News): Congress working president Jagga Reddy accused the BRS of criticising welfare schemes that the Congress government has not implemented. He said the government and the party would soon decide on the pending promises.
Jagga Reddy made the remarks at Gandhi Bhavan while speaking to the media on 1,000 days of Congress rule in Telangana. He said the government had given people greater freedom since taking office.
According to Jagga Reddy, people can now hold protests and visit the Secretariat freely. He credited the Congress government for creating this environment.
He also highlighted several welfare measures implemented by the government. These include free bus travel for women, new ration cards and fine rice distribution.
He further cited cooking gas cylinders at Rs 500 as another major welfare measure. He said the government had implemented several other programmes for the people.
Jagga Reddy said the Congress would soon take a decision on schemes such as one tola of gold. He also mentioned the proposed monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 for women.
Jagga Reddy targets KTR over Congress criticism
Meanwhile, Jagga Reddy targeted BRS working president K.Tarak Rama Rao over his remarks against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. He said KTR should not make statements simply because he has the freedom to speak.
Jagga Reddy also criticised former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao over his political promise to make a Dalit the chief minister. He questioned whether there could be a bigger political betrayal than that promise.
He further said the statements made by KTR would not matter even if KCR, KTR and Harish Rao stayed away from the Assembly.
Jagga Reddy also spoke about the Telangana statehood movement. He said KCR’s role helped intensify the movement. However, he claimed Congress leaders never opposed KCR forming a political party.
He also recalled the Congress party’s role in the creation of Telangana. Jagga Reddy said the Congress made sacrifices for state formation.
He alleged that the BJP accepted Telangana statehood only due to unavoidable political circumstances. He said the BJP did not genuinely favour the creation of Telangana.
Jagga Reddy’s comments came as the Congress government marked 1,000 days in office. His remarks focused on welfare delivery, political freedom and the competing claims of Congress and BRS over Telangana’s political history. (Maxim News)
