Hyderabad: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will arrive in New Delhi on July 1 for a three day official visit to participate in the 16th India Japan Annual Summit. The visit marks her first official trip to India since assuming office.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Takaichi for the visit, which will continue until July 3. During the summit, the two leaders are expected to review the full spectrum of bilateral ties and discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest.
India Japan Annual Summit to Focus on Strategic Partnership
The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Tokyo in August 2025 for the 15th India Japan Annual Summit. It reflects the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Last month, Modi and Takaichi met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France. After the meeting, Modi said India and Japan would continue to deepen cooperation, with a strong focus on trade and investment.
Earlier this year, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi visited New Delhi and held talks with Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The discussions focused on security, investment, innovation, economic cooperation and regional stability.
India and Japan also reaffirmed their commitment to promoting a free, open and prosperous Indo Pacific region. Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in economic security, technology, knowledge sharing and investment.
India and Japan share a long standing Special Strategic and Global Partnership built on decades of cultural ties, mutual trust and shared democratic values. The partnership also aligns India’s Act East Policy, SAGAR vision and Indo Pacific Oceans Initiative with Japan’s Free and Open Indo Pacific strategy.
