JioCinema and Disney+Hotstar have now officially merged to form a new and powerful OTT platform called JioHotstar. This new platform was launched on Friday by JioStar, the recently formed joint venture between Viacom18 and Star India. It is being considered the largest OTT service in India, boasting a user base of over 50 crore.
The Merger of JioCinema and Disney+Hotstar
As a result of this merger, all the content previously available on JioCinema and Disney+Hotstar will now be accessible on the joint platform, JioHotstar. The combination of these two services aims to provide a wider variety of content and an enhanced viewing experience for its subscribers.
Transition for JioCinema Premium and Disney+Hotstar Subscribers
For those who are currently subscribed to JioCinema Premium, the transition to JioHotstar Premium will be quite easy. JioCinema Premium users will be automatically shifted to JioHotstar Premium for the remainder of their existing subscription plans. Once their plans expire, they will need to purchase new plans tailored for the JioHotstar platform, as confirmed by Kevin Vaz, CEO of JioStar.
Disney+Hotstar subscribers have been assured that their transition to JioHotstar will be smooth as well. Those who have an active Disney+Hotstar subscription can continue with their current plans at the existing rates for the next three months.
AI-Driven Features and Enhanced User Experience
JioHotstar aims to offer a more personalized and advanced viewing experience with the use of AI-driven recommendations. The platform will use artificial intelligence to suggest movies and TV shows based on users’ preferences and viewing habits. With content available in over 19 languages, JioHotstar is set to cater to a diverse audience across India.
This move to a unified platform, combining the strengths of JioCinema and Disney+Hotstar, is expected to significantly impact the OTT market in India.
