Speaking to the media at BRKR Bhavan, Reddy stated that while the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued notifications for by-polls in other states, Jubilee Hills is not currently among them. The seat fell vacant following the recent death of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath.
“We promptly forwarded the Assembly’s Gazette notification regarding the vacancy to the ECI. It is now up to the Commission to decide. At this stage, a by-election here appears unlikely,” Reddy said.
21 New Voter-Friendly Measures Announced:
Reddy also announced that the ECI has introduced 21 new initiatives to improve the electoral process and voter convenience. Key changes include:
- Reduced voter cap per polling station from 1,500 to 1,200
- More polling stations in dense residential areas like high-rises and gated communities
- Polling stations within 2 km of voters’ homes for easier access
- Mobile phone deposit zones outside polling booths
- Campaign booth distance reduced from 200 to 100 metres
Digital & Voter Roll Reforms:
A major technological upgrade includes ECINET, a unified platform integrating over 40 ECI services and applications.
Other reforms include:
- Automatic removal of deceased voters through integration with the Registrar General’s death records
- A nationwide duplicate EPIC cleanup drive to ensure unique voter IDs
These measures aim to streamline elections and enhance voter participation and trust in the system, CEO added.
