In this backdrop, Hyderabad District In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar made strong remarks on the upcoming bypoll. During a visit to OU Colony in Shaikpet Division of the Jubilee Hills constituency, accompanied by Minister Vivek Venkat Swamy, Ponnam inspected development works.

GHMC Commissioner Karnan briefed the ministers about projects taken up in the area, particularly in the wake of heavy rains. The ministers instructed officials to expedite pending works and assured local leaders that the government was addressing civic issues on priority.

Speaking to a scribe after his visit, Ponnam Prabhakar drew parallels between the Cantonment bypoll and the forthcoming Jubilee Hills contest. “What happened in the Cantonment will happen in the Jubilee Hills bypoll,” he said. He asserted that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is “still in a state of confusion,” despite its claims that it will win Jubilee Hills.

He further said that the public has lost faith in the BRS after ten years of governance. “The people have realized that the BRS government has not done anything for the past ten years and they are demanding a change,” he remarked.

The minister added that the Congress government is addressing issues “one by one,” from ration cards to supply of rice, and focusing on development in Hyderabad.

On the question of candidate selection, Ponnam acknowledged that many aspirants are in the race for the Congress ticket. However, he clarified that the decision rests entirely with the party high command. “We will not have any involvement in the selection of the candidate,” he said.

At the grassroots level, three ministers and senior officials are already working across the district to strengthen the party’s prospects.

On the issue of BC reservations, Ponnam maintained that the matter is before the court. He reiterated the government’s commitment to 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes “with the blessings of the people.”

He also underlined that his role as district in-charge minister is to oversee ongoing development work rather than to campaign prematurely. “I am always available to the people,” he said.

The Jubilee Hills bypoll is fast emerging as a high-stakes contest, with both Congress and BRS intensifying their strategies ahead of the official notification. (Maxim News
