A division bench stayed the earlier stay order issued by a single judge on the implementation of the two welfare schemes.

The state government had challenged the single judge’s order by filing an appeal before the High Court division bench.

During the hearing, government lawyers strongly defended the welfare schemes. They told the court that the schemes provide financial support to brides from poor families.

The lawyers also argued that the schemes help poor families meet marriage expenses. They further said the programmes support efforts to prevent child marriages in Telangana.

The government maintained that the schemes serve an important social welfare objective. It also argued that the single judge’s stay had created a legal hurdle for their continued implementation.

Division bench clears way for welfare schemes

After hearing the arguments, the division bench agreed with the submissions made on behalf of the state government.

The bench consequently stayed the orders issued by the single judge. The decision provides significant relief to the Telangana government and removes the immediate legal restriction on the schemes.

Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak remain among the state government’s major welfare initiatives for economically weaker families. The schemes aim to provide financial assistance to eligible families for the marriage of their daughters.

The latest High Court order allows the government to continue implementing the schemes while the legal proceedings move forward.

The division bench’s decision has therefore eased the immediate legal uncertainty surrounding the welfare programmes. Further developments will depend on the proceedings in the case and any subsequent orders from the court. (Maxim News)
