Hyderabad, April 3: The Karaj Bridge attack has escalated tensions as the United States carried out an airstrike on a major bridge in Iran. The strike targeted the B1 bridge in the Karaj region on Thursday, causing significant damage. Iran later responded by announcing potential attacks on key bridges in Gulf countries.
According to available details, the B1 bridge is described as the largest bridge in West Asia. It connects the cities of Tehran and Karaj. The structure stands at a height of 136 meters, and some sections are still under construction. Reports state that two airstrikes hit the bridge, leaving eight people dead and 95 injured. Videos of the incident are widely circulating on social media.
Karaj Bridge attack triggers Iran response
Following the strike, Iran strongly reacted to the development. Officials announced that they would target major bridges in Gulf countries. The list includes key infrastructure such as the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Bridge in Kuwait, the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, the Al Maqta Bridge, and the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge in the UAE. It also includes the King Fahd Causeway between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, along with the Damia Bridge and the Abdon Bridge in Jordan.
Iran stated that these bridges are critical for transportation in the region. Therefore, they have been identified as strategic targets. Authorities warned that any such attacks would be carried out under the command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This announcement has raised concerns about further escalation in the region.
Meanwhile, the United States made a statement during the ongoing situation. It said it aims to reach an agreement without delay to prevent further damage. However, former US President Donald Trump commented that Iran has nothing left to boast about.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the airstrike. He said targeting civilian structures is not right. He added that Iran will not surrender due to such attacks. He also stated that every damaged building and bridge will be rebuilt stronger.
The situation remains tense as both sides exchange statements. The Karaj Bridge attack has now widened concerns across West Asia, especially with threats targeting critical infrastructure in multiple countries.
