Karnataka: 116 more students at Dharwad medical college test Covid Positive
Hubballi, November 26: As many as 116 more students of SDM College of Medical Sciences at Sattur in Dharwad tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, taking the total number of affected medical students to 182.
Sources said, on Thursday, SDM College has reported 66 positive cases. After this, the district administration tested 690 persons including students, staff and primary contacts of infected students, and 116 of them tested positive on Friday, taking the total number of infected students to 182, said Nitesh Patil, deputy commissioner, Dharwad.
The DC said that some parents have also participated in a cultural event on November 17, along with their children. All parents who attended an event in the college have been asked to undergo Covid test.
Patil also appealed to people to visit their nearby hospitals and undergo Covid test if they have any symptoms and to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
As all infected students were fully vaccinated, they have shown very mild symptoms. All have been isolated and quarantined in hostels. The two hostels on the campus where students were staying have been sealed down. Offline classes have been suspended till further notice, said sources.
Sources said, most of the infected students are from the third year. The district administration has now cordoned off the college area and deputed cops to ensure nobody enters or exits the campus.
