Hyderabad, Sept. 17: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy accused the Congress and BRS of suppressing the history of Telangana’s liberation movement.
He made the remarks during Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Ground on Thursday.
Vice President C P Radhakrishnan attended the event as the chief guest. The Centre organised the celebrations to mark Hyderabad’s merger with the Indian Union on September 17, 1948.
Kishan Reddy alleged that previous governments avoided highlighting the history of the Razakars and the events surrounding 1948.
Kishan Reddy Criticises Congress, BRS Over Telangana History
Kishan Reddy alleged that Congress and BRS governments avoided official celebrations due to political considerations.
He claimed that the parties had suppressed the history out of fear of AIMIM and vote bank concerns. These were political allegations made by the Union minister.
He also criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his reported remarks about the Nizam’s administration.
Kishan Reddy questioned why the Telangana movement and Operation Polo were necessary if the Nizam’s rule was beneficial.
He also accused the Chief Minister of pursuing vote bank politics.
The Union minister said the history of Telangana’s martyrs should be preserved and passed on to future generations.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar also criticised those who describe the Nizam as a good ruler.
He questioned why the Nizam’s forces had to be challenged if the administration was satisfactory.
Sanjay also accused Congress and BRS of hiding the history of Telangana’s liberation movement.
The September 17 events remain politically contested in Telangana.
The BJP and the Centre refer to the occasion as Hyderabad or Telangana Liberation Day. The BRS earlier observed it as National Integration Day, while the Congress government is observing it as Praja Palana Dinotsavam.
Historical accounts also use different terms, including “Police Action”, “integration” and “liberation”, to describe different aspects of the events surrounding Hyderabad’s merger with India.
