Hyderabad, July 21: Telangana Ministers Konda Surekha and Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday participated in the grand Balkampet Yellamma Kalyanam, offering silk clothes and pearl necklaces to Goddess Yellamma on behalf of the State government.
Minister Konda Surekha said lakhs of devotees attended the annual ceremony. She stated that the Endowments Department made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth darshan and crowd management.
Government Highlights Arrangements for Yellamma Kalyanam
Konda Surekha said special queues were arranged for devotees, including VIPs, and added that the event concluded without any stampede or major inconvenience.
She said the government gave special importance to Joginis during the ceremony. According to the minister, the silk clothes brought by the government were formally offered to the deity, and Joginis were seated in the VIP gallery with due respect.
The minister said the government has allocated funds for Bonalu celebrations and released budgets to temples under the Endowments Department to meet festival expenses.
Referring to the prevailing weather conditions, she said Varuna Yagam is being performed in the State for good rainfall. She added that Goddess Yellamma has held special significance since the Nizam era and that devotees believe prayers at the temple fulfil their wishes.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Yellamma Kalyanam was conducted for the welfare and prosperity of the people. He expressed hope that the blessings of the goddess would bring good rains despite concerns over the impact of El Niño.
He said the Endowments Department had made extensive arrangements for the Ashada Bonalu celebrations and appealed to devotees to cooperate if they faced minor inconveniences. He wished for peace, prosperity and abundant rainfall across Telangana.
