Hyderabad, Sept. 10: BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) said Hyderabad’s Waste to Energy model reflects the vision of the previous K Chandrasekhar Rao government.
The model was featured in the Compendium of Best Practices under NCAP 2026.
Rama Rao welcomed the recognition and said the initiative follows an integrated approach to municipal solid waste management.
Hyderabad Waste to Energy Model Gets National Recognition
The model covers waste segregation, collection, transportation, transfer stations, waste to energy facilities and power generation.
Rama Rao said three waste to energy plants have a combined capacity of 62.5 MW. They process around 3,200 tonnes of segregated combustible waste every day.
During the previous BRS government, GHMC installed three waste to energy plants in Hyderabad in 2020.
One of the plants at Jawahar Nagar was the first waste to energy facility of its kind in South India, according to Rama Rao.
