Hyderabad, Sept 7 (Maxim News): BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the alleged police high-handedness against BRS women legislators during a protest at the Assembly. He questioned the Congress leader’ claim of fighting patriarchy, alleging that his party’s government in Telangana allowed police to smash and thrash BRS women MLAs for wearing black sarees.
“Rahul Gandhi calls for smashing patriarchy, but here in Congress-run Telangana, the Congress police are smashing and thrashing our women MLAs, all because they were wearing black sarees?” he said in a post on X.
Reacting to the alleged manhandling of former Home Minister and MLA P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Rama Rao said she had fought against patriarchy even before Rahul Gandhi entered politics. “Shame on you all. Absolute disgrace,” he said.
He called the conduct of the police towards the women legislators a blot on Indian democracy. He sought to know whether black was banned in Telangana and whether it was allowed only in Parliament.
The remarks came after BRS legislators wearing black T-shirts and sarees to highlight the Congress government’s alleged failure to fulfil its electoral promises in 1,000 days were stopped from entering the Assembly premises. (Maxim News)
