Leaders Congratulate Skyroot Aerospace After Historic Vikram-1 Launch

Delhi/Hyderabad, July 18 (Maxim News): Congratulations poured in from top national leaders after Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace successfully launched Vikram-1, India’s first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, under Mission Aagaman, marking a historic milestone in the country’s space programme.

With the successful launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), Sriharikota, India became only the third country after the United States and China to have a private company capable of launching an orbital rocket.

Vikram-1 Launch Marks New Era for India’s Private Space Sector

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar? (No—per source, C.P. Radhakrishnan) congratulated Skyroot Aerospace, describing the successful mission as a landmark achievement that showcases the growing strength of India’s private space sector.

He said the mission reflects India’s indigenous innovation, reinforces its emergence as a global space power, and highlights the immense potential of the country’s rapidly expanding space economy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the successful launch had taken India’s space ambitions to new heights and credited the achievement to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making space more accessible through private sector participation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the flight as a significant step in strengthening India’s private space ecosystem. He said the mission reflects the talent of young innovators, the capabilities of Indian enterprises and the success of reforms that have opened new opportunities in the space sector.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said the successful launch marked a major leap for India’s space industry and noted that Skyroot Aerospace had become the country’s first private company to place an orbital rocket into space.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal termed the launch a remarkable milestone and said it reflected the success of the Make in India initiative and the government’s efforts to build an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He also highlighted that Skyroot Aerospace operates from Hyderabad’s GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park SEZ, calling it an example of India’s growing high-technology manufacturing ecosystem.

Named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India’s space programme, the four-stage Vikram-1 launch vehicle is designed to provide rapid, reliable and on-demand launch services for small satellites.

The seven-storey rocket is targeting a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at an altitude of approximately 450 kilometres. The successful mission is expected to strengthen India’s position in the global commercial satellite launch market and marks a new chapter in the country’s private space journey.
