Hyderabad: Two persons were arrested after the Central Crime Station (CCS) and Habeeb Nagar Police seized 77,700 prescription tablets and 170 bottles of cough syrup worth around ₹10 lakh during a raid in Hyderabad. Police said the medicines were allegedly being sold illegally without authorization.
The arrested accused were identified as Mohammed Sarvar alias Raheem (30), a driver from Mangar Basthi, Mallepally, and Mohammed Rabbani (32), a band master from Afzal Sagar, Mallepally. Six other suspects from Hyderabad and Bidar are absconding.
Prescription drugs seized in Hyderabad raid
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) M. Srinivas, the seized stock included 49,200 NitraZolam-10 tablets, 18,300 Nikkor-10 tablets, 10,200 Nitravet-10 tablets, and 170 bottles of Choco cough syrup (100 ml).
Police said the accused allegedly procured the medicines from suppliers in Bidar and distributed them illegally in Hyderabad. Investigators suspect the drugs were being sold to habitual offenders and individuals intending to commit crimes.
Officials said the seized medicines are prescription drugs used to treat insomnia, chest pain, seizure disorders, and dry cough. They warned that misuse of such medicines can cause dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, impaired coordination, and rapid heartbeat.
Police have launched a search to trace the six absconding suspects and are investigating the supply network behind the illegal distribution of the prescription medicines.
