Liquor Scam Case: SC To Hear Summoning Of ED Notices To Kavitha On Feb 16

Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 5 (Maxim News): Hearing on the petition of BRS MLC Kavitha challenging the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summon in the Delhi Liquor Scam Case by the Supreme court has been adjourned the next hearing to February 16.

The Supreme Court which heard the matter today, on the petition filed by Kavitha in the Supreme court alleging that the provisions of CrPC are not being followed in the investigation of women.  She appealed to the ED not to take any coercive measures against her.  The investigation has been postponed for the past few months.  A bench of Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mithal took up the hearing on Kavitha’s petition.  Kavitha stated in the petition that it is not proper to call the woman to the ED office and conduct the investigation.   

As Kavitha’s petition is tagged with the petitions filed by Nalini Chidambaram and Abhishek Nanerjee, the Supreme court said that the details of the status of the cases should be given and that all the cases will be investigated simultaneously. Abhishek Banerjee and Nalini chidambaram cases will be investigated.

However, ED’s lawyer AG S.V Raju brought to the notice of the court that Kavitha was not responding to ED’s summons.  Kavitha’s senior lawyer Kapil sibal said that since Kavitha had challenged the summons, there was a need for an  investigation. Kapil sibal said that the ED said that Kavitha will not be summoned till further investigation. Advocate S.V Raju explained that it does not mean that the trial will not be called until the next date of hearing.  (Maxim News)
