Lok Sabha schedules voting on delimitation and reservation bills
The bills were introduced amid sharp differences among members. Initially, a tie led to a division vote. Subsequently, the motion secured 251 votes, allowing formal discussion.
K. C. Venugopal opposed introducing both bills together. He argued that combining them could create complications if one fails.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to the concerns. He said constitutional amendments and law amendments follow different voting procedures.
He added that the bills were introduced together due to their interdependence. The House will now take up detailed debate before the scheduled voting.
