Lok Sabha Seats To Rise To 8,15, 272 For Women: Meghwal

Hyderabad, April 16: Arjun Ram Meghwal said the Lok Sabha strength will rise to 815 seats after delimitation. He added that 272 seats will be reserved for women under the proposed policy.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on April 16, 2026, he outlined the government’s plan. He said the women’s reservation policy passed in 2023 will be implemented after census and delimitation.

Meghwal stated that the increase represents a 50 percent rise in total seats. He added that no state will lose its existing representation. The current strength of states will remain intact.

The minister said the 33 percent quota will translate to 272 seats for women. He stressed that the policy will not reduce opportunities for men. He also assured that states will not face any loss.

He said the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill 2026 aims to ensure equality for women. He added that the move fulfils long standing demands for representation.

Meghwal referred to B. R. Ambedkar in his speech. He said social progress depends on women’s advancement. He also cited A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, who supported women’s reservation.

The minister said the government is taking historic steps under Narendra Modi. He added that the policy will be implemented once procedural steps are completed.
