Man Gets 25-years-RI for Raping Minor Niece in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A special court for trial of cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Wednesday sentenced a food delivery man to 25 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually assaulting his four-year-old niece in January this year.
It also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 and in default of payment of the fine, the 28-year-old accused must undergo simple imprisonment for one year.
The first Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Suneetha Kunchala held the man guilty under relevant Sections of POCSO Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced him to undergo 25 years RI.
According to the prosecution, the accused, the uncle of the girl, took her into a bedroom and committed the heinous crime. The girl was admitted to a government hospital where doctors on examination observed sexual abuse and lodged a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, the police booked a case and arrested the accused on February 20, 2021.
As the accused was convicted for the offence punishable under Section-6 of POCSO Act, the court was of considered opinion that the girl had to be compensated for her sufferance both physically and mentally. The victim received multiple injuries all over her body and suffered with Battered Baby Syndrome due to the offence.
Hence, an amount of Rs 4 lakh was decided as compensation. The court directed the Secretary of Metropolitan Legal Services Authority (MLSA) to take appropriate steps to pay the compensation to the girl at the earliest.
