- Vice Chancellor announces MANUU’s inclusion in QS World Rankings
Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) celebrated National Education Day with an enlightening lecture on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning by Padma Shri awardee Prof. Syed E. Hasnain, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad and recipient of Germany’s Order of Merit. The event, held on Tuesday, was presided over by MANUU Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan.
Prof. Hasnain blended advanced scientific insights with reflections on human character. He noted that while AI will outperform humans in several tasks within two decades, attributes such as compassion, honesty, teamwork, and humility will always remain unique to humans. “Computers will do more things more intelligently than us, but they cannot replace human warmth,” he said. He urged students to cultivate emotional intelligence alongside technological learning to create a balanced, humane approach to future innovation.

Discussing the expanding impact of AI, Prof. Hasnain referred to innovations like self-driving cars, digital platforms such as Uber and Airbnb, and the rise of 3D printing. Drawing from his pioneering work in DNA research, he explained how bacterial genome sequencing is revolutionizing medical diagnostics and disease prevention. He also recalled Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s vision, quoting him: “No programme of national education can be appropriate if it does not give full consideration to the education and advancement of one half of our society that is women.” Prof. Hasnain said this statement, made decades ago, reflects Azad’s extraordinary foresight on women’s education.
In his presidential address, Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan lauded MANUU’s academic growth, announcing its inclusion in the QS World University Rankings for the first time. He attributed this success to timely implementation of the National Education Policy and strong multidisciplinary research. “We are not just celebrating Azad Day; we are celebrating academic transformation,” he declared.
Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, in his welcome address announced the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art Digital Multimedia Center designed to enhance distance and online education. He reaffirmed MANUU’s commitment to Maulana Azad’s principle that education is every citizen’s birthright.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Azad Day Celebration Committee, Prof. Alim Ashraf Jaisi, detailed the week-long series of events, including an upcoming international conference on Indo-Persian linguistic commonalities, one of the most important academic milestones in MANUU’s history.
