“This is not a surrender… We have joined the mainstream to work together in development. Until now, we have fought for the oppressed in the movement… and we will continue to do so in the future,” Chandranna stated. He asserted, “Our ideology has not been defeated… and no one can defeat it.”

Chandranna, who served as a member of the Telangana State Committee of the Maoist party, spent 45 years in the movement, working at various levels. He explained his decision to join the mainstream, stating, “We have decided to live among the people and continue our service and struggle.” He clarified that he and his fellow cadres had handed over their weapons to the party before coming out.

Along with Chandranna, another Telangana State Committee member, Banda Prakash, also surrendered before the DGP.

The DGP’s assurance, coupled with the surrender of senior leaders like Chandranna and Banda Prakash, could mark a turning point in the state’s efforts to bring an end to the long-standing conflict.

Chandranna’s statement that his ideology remains intact, even as he lays down arms, is a powerful message. It suggests a shift in strategy rather than a change in core beliefs.

By choosing to work within the system, he and his comrades seem to be exploring a new path to achieve their goals of serving the oppressed. This move could potentially open up a new chapter in the dialogue between the state and the Maoist movement, one that focuses on development and social justice rather than armed conflict.
