Maoists Kill Contractor | Hyderabad, Dec. 8: A contractor from Uttar Pradesh was killed by Maoists in the Pamed police station limits of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.
The incident created fear in agency villages after the victim was found dead with his throat slit early on Monday.
According to initial information, the victim, Imtiyaz Ali, was executing road construction work at Irpalli village.
Despite earlier warnings from Maoists not to continue the project, he proceeded with the work. As a result, armed cadres abducted him on Sunday. Security officials said the abduction occurred near the project site while labour activity was underway.
Maoists Kill Contractor | Maoist threat intensifies in agency region
On Monday morning, residents alerted police after the body of Imtiyaz Ali was discovered in the Gollapalli area under the Pamed limits.
The killing triggered tension across several interior villages, as locals feared further attacks. Moreover, the incident underscored the continuing Maoist opposition to infrastructure activity in remote pockets.
Authorities indicated that the motive stemmed from the group’s objection to road construction in the region.
Because roads improve access for security forces, Maoists frequently oppose such projects. Consequently, contractors and workers face high risk in areas marked by insurgent mobilisation.
Police teams launched a search operation to track the group responsible. Officials also advised contractors to follow safety protocols when working in conflict-prone zones. Although routine construction continues in many villages, periodic attacks disrupt progress and heighten fear among local residents.
The killing renewed concerns over security arrangements in interior regions of Bijapur. Residents remained indoors through the day as tension persisted. Security forces intensified patrolling, while inquiries into the sequence of events continued.
