One of the biggest mosques in the country, Mecca Masjid can have nearly 10,000 people gather at a time for prayers

Hyderabad: With the holy month of Ramzan all set to begin in next two days, hectic activity is being witnessed at the historic Mecca Masjid in the old city.

One of the biggest mosques in the country, Mecca Masjid can have nearly 10,000 people gather at a time for prayers.

On Sunday, the management began the works of cleaning the houz, the ablution complex and the masjid hall. All the carpets and chandeliers were being cleaned while the electricians conducted a thorough check of the internal wiring to prevent any breakdown in the premises during the Ramzan month.

Hundreds of people visit the 400 year-old mosque to break their fast in the evening during the Ramzan month. A few hundred more attend the ‘Taraweeh’ prayers held in the night during the month of Ramzan.

The minority welfare department has released a budget to arrange ‘Iftar’ at the mosque and for other expenses. This apart, different departments including HMWSSB, police and electricity, have inspected the mosque and discussed with management on the facilities to be provided.

As the gathering will be huge during the Ramzan month, the management is busy chalking out a strategy to ensure social distancing and use of face mask by the namazis.
