MIM Vote Split Claims Raised By Congress leader Sameer

  • Sameer alleges MIM actions indirectly help BJP
  • MIM vote split impact questioned after Maharashtra polls

Former Hyderabad District Congress Committee president and Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency in charge Mohammed Waliullah Sameer accused the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen of indirectly helping the Bharatiya Janata Party through electoral conduct. He said recent political developments had strengthened a long held view that MIM’s role in elections often benefited the BJP. According to Sameer, these concerns had gained fresh attention after events in Maharashtra.

Sameer referred to the Maharashtra municipal elections held in early January 2026. He noted that MIM won 125 corporator seats across different civic bodies. However, he said reports of local level power sharing arrangements between MIM and the BJP had caused widespread criticism. He specifically mentioned the Akot municipal council. He said such developments raised serious political questions and contradicted MIM’s public claim of opposing the BJP.

The Congress leader stated that opposition parties, including the Congress and the Shiv Sena, highlighted these developments as signs of political collusion at the grassroots level. He said that although MIM leaders denied any formal alliance with the BJP, the situation on the ground told a different story. Therefore, he argued that these actions created confusion among minority voters and weakened joint opposition efforts.

MIM vote split debate widens after Assembly elections

Sameer also referred to allegations linked to the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. He said MIM and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi were accused of influencing results in at least six constituencies. In these seats, he said both parties secured more votes than the BJP’s margin of victory. According to him, this led to claims that MIM’s participation divided anti BJP votes.

He further said similar allegations surfaced in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Bihar. In these states, MIM’s entry into electoral contests was said to have fragmented opposition vote banks. However, Sameer acknowledged that these claims were based on post election data. He also noted that they did not prove political intent. Still, he argued that the cumulative impact of such vote splits could not be ignored.

Meanwhile, the former DCC president criticised MIM for what he described as a lack of political clarity. He said repeated denials by the party leadership failed to address public doubts. He added that minority voters were seeking clear leadership that strengthened democratic forces and resisted the BJP.

Later, Sameer reiterated that the Congress remained committed to protecting constitutional values and minority rights. He also urged voters to judge political parties based on outcomes rather than rhetoric. According to him, electoral actions mattered more than public statements when assessing their real impact.
