According to the bank’s complaint, the incident took place on October 28 when an unidentified cybercriminal accessed the MP’s account at SBI’s Kolkata High Court Branch. The scammer updated the account’s Know Your Customer (KYC) details using a forged PAN card, a fabricated Aadhaar card, and superimposed photographs, giving him full access to the account. Once inside, the fraudster conducted multiple transactions through internet banking.

The complaint revealed that around Rs. 56,39,767 was stolen through a series of online transfers to multiple beneficiary accounts. The accused also withdrew some of the money through ATMs and used part of it to purchase jewellery, officials said. The fraudulent operations went unnoticed until the unusual transactions triggered a review by the bank, leading to the discovery of the theft.
