MPs Seek Extension For Waqf Property Registration On Umeed Portal
New Delhi / Hyderabad, Dec. 11 (Maxim News): A delegation of Members of Parliament led by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahim Mujaddidi, general secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), met Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju. They urged the minister to grant an extension for the registration of Wakf properties on the Umeed Portal.
The delegation included prominent leaders such as AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi; MPs Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan, Mohd Jawed; and Syed Sadatullah Husaini, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
The MPs sought the extension to facilitate the completion of Wakf property registrations, which are critical for legal recognition and management of these properties. They emphasized the importance of the Umeed Portal, an online platform launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs to streamline Wakf property registration.
This portal aims to protect and manage Wakf assets effectively, ensuring transparency and better governance.
Wakf properties, endowed for religious and charitable purposes, often face challenges due to incomplete or expired registrations. The extension would allow more time for Wakf boards and trustees to update records and comply with registration requirements.
This move could strengthen the administration of Wakf assets nationwide, benefiting minority communities reliant on these properties.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board remains a key stakeholder in Wakf affairs, advocating for minority rights and legal protections. The involvement of MPs from different regions and parties highlights cross-sectional support for the issue.
The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs oversees the management and policy framework for Wakf properties, making Minister Kiren Rijiju a crucial figure in implementing these proposals.
This meeting underscores ongoing efforts to safeguard minority heritage and ensure the effective use of Wakf properties throughout India. It follows recent government initiatives to digitize and regularize Wakf registrations, aimed at enhancing accountability and preventing encroachments on these community assets. (Maxim News)
