Hyderabad, May 8: The Telangana government has accelerated preparations for the Musi River redevelopment project, with first phase works estimated at Rs 7,055 crore. The Cabinet sub committee reviewed the Detailed Project Report and directed officials to begin initial works without affecting existing structures.
Officials informed the committee that discussions with the Asian Development Bank for funding support have concluded. The government plans to begin the Musi project works in August this year.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka instructed officials to complete the first phase by December 2027. He directed departments to execute the project smoothly and avoid inconvenience to residents.
Musi Project Works to Begin in August
During the meeting, ministers advised officials to begin works on a five kilometre stretch where structures would not face impact. They also suggested alignment changes in sensitive areas to minimise displacement and reduce damage to nearby properties.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar asked officials to take precautions during the rainy season so that project activities continue without disruption.
The sub committee also reviewed proposed rubber dam models planned as part of the Musi River restoration project. Officials explained the technical aspects of the designs and their role in improving water retention and river management.
The Musi River project is one of the Telangana government’s major urban development initiatives. The project aims to improve riverfront infrastructure, sewage treatment, flood management, and environmental conditions across Hyderabad.
The government has been holding a series of review meetings to finalise execution plans and funding arrangements before the official launch of construction activities.
