Nagarjuna Sagar at Risk: Experts Warn of Immediate Danger

Nagarjuna Sagar/Hyderabad, Jan 2 (Maxim News): Experts are expressing concern that Nagarjuna Sagar is in danger, it is being warned that 6-meter-deep potholes have appeared in the blocks and that if repairs are not carried out immediately, huge damage will be caused, it is also being demanded that the Telangana government at least do it.

To this extent, experts who recently inspected Nagarjuna Sagar said that out of the 26 blocks in the dam, holes ranging from 1 to 6 meters deep have formed in each block. They found that holes had formed in the spillway where water was released from the crest gates. They expressed concern that this had happened less than two years after it was repaired for Rs. 16.54 crore.  It is estimated that repairs to the spillway, which is very important for Sagar, and the bucket portion, where water flows downwards from the dam. However, it was revealed that these repair works will have to be done from the AP side.

First, the area where the potholes have occurred should be cleaned with an air-water jet. Then grouting, drilling, and fixing the rods should be done. Experts suggested that the work should be carried out under the supervision of the Dam Safety Review Panel and the Central Water Resources Commission by mixing chemical treatment. If the work is done nominally in the name of commissions, it will not last long. The experts said that if the funds of this project are put on the green channel list, good companies will come forward to do the work. The experts said that even now, the Telangana government should take up the repair work carefully.

Meanwhile, it is known that there was a water dispute with the AP government during the last assembly elections.  Whereas last year, the Telangana government took care of all the maintenance work. However, the project is under the control of the Krishna Board. Therefore, experts think that it would be better to hand over the repair work to Telangana.  (Maxim News)
