Nalgonda, Sept. 12: Muslims in Nalgonda offered Namaz-e-Istisqa at the Eidgah ground on Sunday, seeking rains amid concerns over water shortages and falling groundwater levels.
A large number of people gathered at the Eidgah ground on Munugode Road for the special prayers.
The Nalgonda Eidgah Committee organised the programme under the guidance of religious leaders.
The prayers sought abundant rainfall and relief for farmers, livestock, birds and other living beings.
Namaz-e-Istisqa Held Amid Rain Shortage Concerns
Maulana Ehsanuddin Qasmi, President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Telangana and a member of the Eidgah Committee, addressed the gathering.
He said the prayers were held for adequate rainfall across Telangana.
Qasmi said rains are essential for people, agriculture and all living beings.
He also noted concerns over declining groundwater levels and the impact on farming.
Religious scholars explained that Namaz-e-Istisqa is offered during drought or prolonged periods without sufficient rainfall.
They said Muslims offer the prayer seeking rain and relief from difficult conditions.
The religious leaders also urged people to fulfil their social responsibilities.
They advised eligible Muslims to pay Zakat and support poor and needy people.
They also called for unity, charity, brotherhood and mutual cooperation in society.
The prayers come amid concerns over inadequate rainfall and declining groundwater levels in the region.
Participants hoped for sufficient rains to replenish ponds, improve groundwater levels and support agricultural activity.
Eidgah Committee representatives thanked municipal officials and police personnel for making arrangements for the programme.
Religious leaders, committee members, library institution chairman Hafiz Khan and local residents attended the event.
