Internet, Sept. 13: An Iranian merchant ship was reportedly attacked near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, leaving one person dead and three injured.

Iranian media reported that the incident occurred around 5 am near Qeshm and Hengam islands.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also confirmed an incident involving an Iranian merchant vessel.

UKMTO said an object was used to attack the vessel but did not provide further details.

Strait of Hormuz Attack Raises Regional Tensions

The US military has not issued an official statement on the reported attack.

Authorities have not yet provided details about the identity of the vessel or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The reported attack comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran.

Several explosions were also reported on Qeshm Island on Saturday night, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Iran is holding discussions with Gulf countries in Oman over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
