Hyderabad, Nov 1 (Maxim News): The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced new Aadhaar update rules, making the process of changing personal details faster, simpler, and more transparent.
Starting today (November 1), Aadhaar holders can now update their details such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number entirely online, without needing to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
The new system allows updates through linked government databases such as PAN, Passport, and other verified records for automatic data validation. This means users will no longer need to upload physical documents for verification in most cases.
However, to update biometric details — including fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs — citizens will still be required to visit an authorized Aadhaar Seva Kendra in person.
Revised Charges
UIDAI has also announced new service charges for Aadhaar updates:
- ₹75 for changes to demographic details such as name, address, or mobile number
- ₹125 for updates to biometric information (fingerprints, iris, or photo)
Currently, document-based online updates are free until June 14, 2026. After this date, the above charges will apply.
Aadhaar–PAN Linking Mandatory
UIDAI has reminded citizens that linking Aadhaar with PAN is mandatory. To avoid deactivation, Aadhaar–PAN linking must be completed by December 31, 2025. From January 1, 2026, any unlinked PAN cards will become inoperative. Aadhaar authentication will also be mandatory while applying for a new PAN card.
E-KYC Simplified
Banks and financial institutions have been advised to adopt paperless e-KYC verification methods such as OTP, video-based verification, or in-person Aadhaar authentication for faster service delivery.
UIDAI clarified that online Aadhaar updates remain free until June 14, 2026, but users must ensure that their mobile number is linked to their Aadhaar to use this facility. (Maxim News)
