Hyderabad: A fresh twist has emerged in the POCSO case involving Bandi Sai Bhagirath after the police added another serious charge during the investigation.
Pet Basheerabad police have now included Section 64(2)(m) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the case, alleging repeated sexual assault on the minor victim.
Officials had earlier booked Bandi Sai Bhagirath under multiple sections related to sexual harassment and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to police sources, the newly added BNS Section 64(2)(m) relates to repeated rape allegations. If the charges are proven during trial, the accused could face a minimum punishment of 10 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The case already includes charges under BNS Sections 74 and 75 along with Section 5(l) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The latest development comes amid intense political controversy surrounding the case in Telangana. Opposition parties have demanded a fair and transparent investigation.
Bandi Sai Bhagirath was recently remanded to judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate court.
Police officials are continuing the investigation and are reportedly examining digital evidence and witness statements connected to the case.
The case has triggered widespread political reactions, with several leaders demanding strict action and justice for the minor victim.
