Hyderabad, May 15: A newly married woman died in a hit and run accident after a DCM vehicle rammed into a scooter at Bandlaguda in Hyderabad on Friday.
The accident occurred under the limits of the Bandlaguda police station when the woman and her husband were returning home after attending a family function.
According to police, the DCM vehicle hit their Activa scooter and the driver fled from the spot without stopping after the collision.
The woman died on the spot due to severe injuries, while her husband sustained injuries in the accident. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
After receiving information, police rushed to the accident spot and inspected the scene. A large number of local residents gathered at the location following the incident, prompting police to control the crowd and clear traffic congestion.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials said CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify and trace the DCM driver involved in the accident.
The incident triggered anger among local residents, who alleged that heavy vehicles are being driven recklessly on city roads, posing a serious threat to commuters and pedestrians.
Residents demanded strict action against the driver responsible for the accident and called for tighter monitoring of heavy vehicle movement in the city.
The fatal accident once again raised concerns over road safety and increasing hit and run incidents in Hyderabad.
