No Drop in Chicken Demand in Hyderabad Despite Bird Flu Scare
Hyderabad: Concerns over bird flu haven’t stopped Hyderabadis from enjoying their favorite chicken dishes. Even with restrictions on poultry sales to prevent the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), the city’s love for Hyderabadi biryani, shawarma, and other chicken delicacies remains unchanged.
From restaurants to street food stalls, demand for chicken is as strong as ever, and prices have remained stable. Despite reports of bird flu in neighboring states, people continue to order their favorite chicken dishes without hesitation.
Restaurants and Fast Food Outlets See No Change in Sales
Hotels and restaurants across the city are still serving their usual chicken dishes, and customers seem unfazed by the news.
Ali Raza Kazmi, owner of Lucky Group of Restaurants, confirmed:
“Our sales have remained steady. People are still enjoying biryani and other chicken dishes as usual.”
Fast food joints are also seeing no dip in demand. Shawarma, chicken 65, and grilled chicken continue to be popular choices. Mohammed Hadi, owner of Shawarma Hut in Jubilee Hills, said:
“There have been some supply disruptions due to bird flu cases in nearby states, but our sales haven’t really been affected. Customers are still coming in as usual.”
Chicken Prices Remain Steady
As of Wednesday, chicken prices in Hyderabad remain stable:
- Live chicken: ₹80 to ₹120 per kg
- Dressed chicken: ₹180 to ₹200 per kg
Major poultry markets like Murgi Chowk near Charminar and Nampally are still busy with buyers and sellers.
Omer, a wholesale trader at Murgi Chowk, said:
“Bird flu fears come up from time to time, especially when the seasons change. But since Telangana has no reported cases, sales are mostly normal. Wholesale sales have dropped slightly, but hotels and restaurants are still ordering as usual.”
Telangana Takes Precautions
After bird flu cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana government issued a high alert on Tuesday. Officials are monitoring the situation closely and have banned poultry imports from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra as a precaution. 24 check posts have been set up to stop poultry trucks from entering the state.
Despite these precautions, Hyderabad’s love for chicken remains strong, proving that a bird flu scare isn’t enough to keep people away from their favorite dishes.
