No RTO Visit For New Vehicle Registration In Telangana
- Dealership-based registration to end RTO visits in Telangana
- RC home delivery planned under new vehicle registration system
In a major relief for vehicle buyers, the Telangana government has decided to remove the need for an RTO visit for new vehicle registration. Under the revised system, buyers will complete the entire registration process at the authorised dealership itself. The move aims to make registration faster, simpler, and more transparent for citizens across the state.
According to officials, the Transport Department is preparing to roll out a new software system within the next 15 days. Once the system goes live, the Registration Certificate will be generated digitally. It will then be sent directly to the vehicle owner’s home through postal services. Therefore, buyers will no longer need to visit Regional Transport Offices for permanent registration.
Until now, authorised dealerships could issue only temporary registrations. Vehicle owners then had to visit RTO offices to complete permanent registration. However, the new process will allow showrooms to handle permanent registration as well. This change is expected to reduce paperwork, cut waiting time, and ease the burden on RTO offices.
Meanwhile, the Transport Department is working to update the required software infrastructure. Officials said the reform aligns with initiatives taken by the Central Government to modernise vehicle related services. It also focuses on improving ease of access for citizens. One key objective of the dealer driven and technology based system is to prevent middlemen from exploiting vehicle owners by charging illegal fees during registration.
Telangana had not adopted this model earlier due to delays in integrating with the central VAHAN Sarathi portal. However, the state government has now approved joining the system. With this approval, authorities will roll out the revised registration framework across the state.
Officials also clarified that the new facility will apply only to non transport vehicles. These include two wheelers and cars purchased from authorised automobile dealers. Commercial and transport vehicles will continue to follow the existing registration process at RTO offices.
Later, the government expressed hope that the reform would offer a smoother and quicker experience for new vehicle buyers. By reducing direct interaction and increasing digital processing, the state aims to ensure transparency and accountability. The decision marks a significant step toward a more citizen friendly vehicle registration system in Telangana.
