Hyderabad, May 13: An NRI woman software engineer has come forward with allegations of severe harassment and financial fraud involving a marriage scam and online trading. According to the victim, identified as Shireesha, a gang targeted her while she was working in the United States, ruining her career and continuing to harass her after her return to India. She addressed the media to prevent others from falling into similar traps, citing a lack of support from law enforcement and the political influence of the accused.
The victim stated that she initially used matrimonial and dating apps in the U.S. to find a partner. She discovered that many individuals on these platforms provided false information regarding their marital status and personal history. Shireesha alleged that prospective suitors often focused on her assets and subjected her to sexual harassment through phone calls and physical intimidation. Despite her complaints to the Indian Embassy in the U.S., no action was taken at that time.
Upon returning to India, Shireesha reported that the harassment continued through mutual friends and online platforms. She approached the Cyberabad Police, but they reportedly declined to file a First Information Report (FIR), stating that the primary incidents occurred outside their jurisdiction in the U.S.. American police had also previously informed her that they lacked the authority to investigate the matter as a criminal case.
In addition to the harassment, the victim claimed she was defrauded through an online trading scheme. The perpetrators initially showed her small profits before convincing her to invest larger sums, which were subsequently lost when the market reportedly crashed. She was even pressured to sell her property to invest more funds before realizing it was a scam. A complaint regarding the financial fraud has now been lodged with the Cyber Crime department, and investigations are currently underway. (Maxim News)
