Nupur Sharma should apologize to the nation: Supreme Court

New Delhi, July 01: The Supreme Court lashed out at former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Friday for remarks she made about Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate. According to the Supreme Court, her loose tongue set the entire country on fire, and the result was the unfortunate incident in Udaipur.

A vacation bench comprising of Justices Surya Kant and J.B. Pardiwala slammed Sharma for making irresponsible remarks and chastised her for her arrogance. Citing her remarks, the bench told Sharma’s lawyer, “It is so disturbing… the outcome is what happened in Udaipur… please do not compel us to open our mouth.”

The bench advised her to apologize to the nation for her irresponsible remarks. Sharma had petitioned the Supreme Court to transfer several FIRs filed against her in various states for alleged remarks to Delhi for investigation. Despite withdrawing her comments, Sharma claims she is constantly threatened by unsocial elements.

The bench made it clear to her lawyer, senior advocate Maninder Singh, that it is not interested in hearing her appeal. “When you file a complaint, that person is arrested, but no one dares to touch you… That demonstrates your clout “The bench stated.

In response to her apology and withdrawal of comments about the Prophet, the bench told her counsel that it was too late in the day to withdraw and that her irresponsible remarks had set the entire country on fire. The bench reiterated that a person was arrested on her complaint, but despite multiple FIRs, she has yet to be touched by the police, instead of being greeted with a red carpet.

The bench informed Singh that such people are not religious because all religious people respect all religions.

Singh claimed that she immediately apologized and cited several top court decisions in which the clubbing of multiple FIRs for the same alleged offense was ordered. However, Singh was unable to persuade the bench and withdrew his appeal from the Supreme Court.

The bench told Singh that her statement was solely responsible for igniting the country and asked if she is under threat or has posed a threat to the nation.
