Only Congress Can Protect 4% Muslim Quota: Shabbir Ali
- Congress leader urges Jubilee Hills voters to support Naveen Yadav
- Says vote for Congress is a stand for minority rights and secular values
Senior Congress leader and Telangana Government Adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir Ali said that only the Congress can safeguard the 4% Muslim reservation and continue to protect the rights of minorities. Speaking at a large public meeting at Janapriya Grounds in Erragadda on Sunday, he appealed to voters in the Jubilee Hills constituency to support Congress candidate Naveen Yadav in the upcoming by-election. He said such support would strengthen the government’s resolve to protect the interests of the poor and minorities.
Recalling the history of Muslim reservations, Shabbir Ali said the 4% quota introduced by the Congress government in 2004–05 benefited nearly 22 lakh poor Muslims. He noted that it helped thousands pursue higher education in professional fields such as medicine, engineering, MBA, and MCA. “This historic decision opened doors for thousands of families and transformed lives through education and employment,” he said, adding that only Congress had the political will to defend and sustain such welfare policies.
He said that Naveen Yadav’s victory in Jubilee Hills would send a strong message of public support for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s leadership and the Congress government’s welfare programmes. “Your vote for Naveen Yadav is not just for one candidate but for the continuation of progressive schemes that uplift the poor and the backward,” he emphasised. He reiterated that Congress was committed to challenging the Waqf Amendment Act in the Supreme Court and to opposing forces that threaten minority rights. “This is a multi-front battle — political, social, and legal. Every Congress victory strengthens the movement for justice and equality,” he said.
Shabbir Ali warned voters against the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), calling it a “secret ally” of the BJP. He accused both parties of working in tandem to divide secular votes and weaken the Congress. “The BRS has repeatedly helped the BJP by splitting anti-BJP votes. It deserves to be defeated for betraying the people’s trust,” he said. He further alleged that the BRS supported the BJP on multiple occasions, including the passage of controversial laws, adding that any support for the BRS indirectly strengthened the BJP.

He reaffirmed his confidence in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership, highlighting ongoing welfare schemes such as the free distribution of fine rice, issuance of ration cards, 200 units of free electricity, and complimentary travel for women in RTC buses. Shabbir Ali said these measures demonstrated the government’s commitment to inclusive development and social welfare.
Appealing to the voters for unity, Shabbir Ali urged them to vote for Congress in the November 11 by-election. “Every vote for Congress is a vote to defend justice, protect reservation, and strengthen secular values,” he concluded.
