New Delhi, June 6: The Government of India has announced that nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2027 are now open from March 15, 2026, with the last date for submission set as July 31, 2026, officials said.
All nominations must be submitted online through the official Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).
About Padma Awards
The Padma Awards — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri — are among the highest civilian honours in India. Instituted in 1954, they are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day.
These awards recognise “work of distinction” and are conferred for exceptional achievements across diverse fields including:
- Art and Literature
- Education and Science
- Sports and Medicine
- Social Work
- Public Affairs and Civil Service
- Trade, Industry and Engineering
Citizens from all backgrounds, without distinction of race, occupation, position or gender, are eligible for consideration.
Government Push for “People’s Padma”
The government has reiterated its vision to transform the Padma Awards into a “People’s Padma”, encouraging wider public participation in nominations, including self-nominations.
Special emphasis has been placed on identifying deserving individuals from:
- Women achievers
- SC/ST communities
- Divyang persons
- Social workers serving underprivileged groups
Officials said concerted efforts should be made to recognise individuals with exceptional and selfless contributions to society.
Submission Guidelines
Nominations must include complete details as per the prescribed format available on the portal. The focus should clearly highlight the nominee’s distinguished service or achievements in their respective field.
