Hyderabad, June 5: Government doctors in Telangana on Friday withdrew their proposed statewide strike after receiving assurances from Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha that their concerns regarding transfers would be addressed.
The decision came after discussions between the government and the Telangana Government Doctors Association over the implementation of transfer guidelines under Government Order 38.
The TGGDA had earlier announced a statewide agitation, alleging violations of GO 38, which was issued in April and provides a structured framework for employee transfers, including those of government doctors.
The association had planned to suspend outpatient services at major government hospitals, including Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital and Niloufer Hospital.
TGGDA president Dr. Ramesh had stated that nearly 5,000 doctors were expected to participate in the agitation. The association also announced that its office-bearers would not submit transfer option forms until GO 38 was implemented in full.
The doctors’ association sought transparent transfers for those who completed four years of service, employees eligible under the three-year priority category and doctors falling under the zero-spouse category. It also requested exemption from transfers for elected office-bearers of recognized associations.
Following the Health Minister’s intervention, the TGGDA expressed satisfaction with the government’s response and decided to withdraw all planned protest programmes.
The association confirmed that outpatient, inpatient, emergency and surgical services at government hospitals across Telangana would continue without disruption.
In a statement, the TGGDA said providing quality healthcare services to the public remained its top priority and assured patients that doctors would continue to be available for medical care.
