Geneva, June 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Geneva on Tuesday en route to Evian, France, to participate in the G7 Summit. In a special diplomatic gesture, Switzerland President Guy Parmelin received him at the airport.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both leaders exchanged greetings and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening India Switzerland relations.
The Prime Minister will attend the G7 Summit sessions focused on new global partnerships, international solidarity, sustainable economic growth, and the rapid and safe expansion of artificial intelligence.
PM Modi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders during the summit.
After completing engagements in Evian, PM Modi will travel to Paris on Thursday for bilateral meetings and participation in VivaTech Summit, Europe’s leading technology and startup event.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the Prime Minister is also likely to interact with members of the Indian community in Paris.
Before reaching Switzerland, PM Modi concluded his two day visit to Slovakia. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico personally saw him off at the hotel before departure.
Calling the visit historic and productive, PM Modi said the outcomes would deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen trade relations.
During the Slovakia visit, PM Modi met Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Peter Pellegrini. Their discussions covered manufacturing, transport, innovation, investment, energy, biofuels and digital technology.
Slovakia also conferred its highest civilian honour, the Order of the White Double Cross First Class, on PM Modi. It marked the 33rd international honour received by the Prime Minister.
