New Delhi, June 16: The DMK has sharply criticised Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi and questioned his political approach within opposition alliances and Tamil Nadu politics. The remarks mark a fresh strain between the two parties, which were previously alliance partners.
The criticism came from the DMK’s IT wing, which accused the Congress of distancing itself after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and extending support to Vijay’s Tamil Vetri Kazhagam.
According to the party’s comments, the Congress benefited from the alliance during difficult political phases but later shifted its political position. The DMK also alleged that such moves weakened opposition unity.
The criticism extended further through the DMK’s official publication Murasoli. In its editorial, the newspaper blamed Rahul Gandhi for contributing to divisions among opposition parties.
The editorial referred to recent political developments and questioned Congress’s conduct within the INDIA alliance. It also cited criticism raised earlier by Left parties in Kerala regarding Rahul Gandhi’s political statements.
DMK alleged that Congress repeatedly acted against the interests of alliance partners in different states. The editorial claimed that Congress focused more on criticising partner parties than confronting political rivals.
The party further alleged that Congress support for emerging political forces in Tamil Nadu reflected inconsistency in alliance politics.
However, Congress has not issued an official response to the editorial. Party sources maintained that its political decisions reflected public sentiment in Tamil Nadu.
