Kolkata, June 16: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday moved the Kolkata High Court challenging the result of the Bhabanipur Assembly election after her defeat in the recent state polls.
Banerjee filed the petition seeking legal review of the election outcome. The move comes amid political developments within the Trinamool Congress following the Assembly election results.
Mamata Banerjee had contested from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency and lost to BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari by 15,105 votes.
The West Bengal Assembly election results were declared on May 4. Following the outcome, the BJP formed the government and Suvendu Adhikari assumed office as Chief Minister.
This marks the second time Banerjee has approached the High Court after the party faced a major setback in the Assembly elections.
Further proceedings in the matter are expected before the court in the coming days.
