New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked a significant milestone by hoisting the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort for the 11th consecutive time, surpassing the previous record held by his predecessor, Dr. Manmohan Singh. With this achievement, Modi now ranks third among Indian Prime Ministers in terms of the number of times they have hoisted the tricolor.

The record for the most flag hoistings belongs to India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who performed the honors 17 times from 1947 to 1964. Following closely is his daughter, Indira Gandhi, who hoisted the national flag 16 times during her two non-consecutive terms from 1966 to 1977 and 1980 to 1984.
