New Delhi, August 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the Ashok Dham temple stampede in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district.
At least seven devotees died in the incident. Modi offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
He also wished the injured devotees a speedy recovery. The Prime Minister shared his message on Facebook.
Modi Condoles Ashok Dham Stampede Deaths
Modi said the loss of lives in the stampede was deeply distressing.
He added that the local administration was providing assistance to the victims.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government announced an ex gratia of Rs. 4 lakh for each deceased person’s family.
Lakhisarai District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar said thousands of devotees had gathered at the temple.
Devotees had formed separate queues for men and women for darshan.
According to the district administration, an electric pole suddenly collapsed near the men’s queue.
A rumour that the fallen pole was carrying live electricity reportedly triggered panic.
As a result, devotees rushed in different directions, leading to the stampede.
