New Delhi, Sept. 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to participate in the ongoing national census, describing it as a collective national duty. Speaking during his latest Mann Ki Baat address, he said officials had recorded data from more than 32 crore families in the first phase.
Modi said census operations had progressed in remote and snow bound areas of Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. He also shared examples of residents participating in the exercise.
In Uttarakhand, officials began the process at Mana village in Chamoli district with 83 year old Purnima Rawat. Meanwhile, Hardev Singh Rana, a homestay owner in Bhagori village, Uttarkashi, entered his family’s details through the digital platform.
PM Modi Highlights Census Self Registration Facility
Recalling his Independence Day appeal on August 15, Modi urged citizens to spare time for the census. He highlighted the self registration facility, which allows people to submit family details through their mobile phones.

The facility supports 16 languages, including Hindi. Citizens can visit the official portal, ec.census.gov.in, and log in using their mobile numbers. They can then enter their location, fill in family details and submit the information.
The process takes around 15 to 20 minutes and does not require document uploads. After submission, the portal generates a unique ID. Once officials verify the information, it becomes part of the official census record.
Modi said more than 2.6 crore people had already completed self enumeration using their mobile phones. He urged others to use the facility and help build an accurate national database.
He also highlighted the census’s role in planning and welfare schemes. Modi said reliable demographic data would help authorities plan programmes and improve their implementation. He expressed confidence that public cooperation would ensure the successful completion of the exercise.
