Hyderabad, July 6: Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Monday said the Congress government is committed to providing houses for the poor and has sanctioned 2.5 lakh houses across the state under the second phase of the Indiramma Housing Scheme.
Speaking after distributing Indiramma house sanction documents to beneficiaries in Mulugu, Siddipet district, the minister said the State Cabinet had also approved financial assistance to complete unfinished houses.
Ponguleti said funds would be released to complete 500 unfinished houses in every Assembly constituency. He added that families living in around 32,000 thatched huts across the state would receive priority under the second phase if they were not covered in the first phase.
He said houses were being sanctioned to eligible beneficiaries without political discrimination. State Labour Minister Vivek Venkataswamy and Siddipet District Collector Haimavathi attended the programme.
Criticising the previous BRS government, Ponguleti alleged that double bedroom housing projects were concentrated in constituencies such as Siddipet, Gajwel and Sircilla, while many other constituencies received only a limited number of houses that remained incomplete.
The minister also accused the previous government of mismanaging funds allocated for the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. He alleged that financial irregularities took place during the execution of the project and rejected criticism directed at the present government.
Ponguleti urged the opposition to raise issues in the Assembly and participate in constructive discussions instead of making allegations outside the House.
