Ponnam Prabhakar Offers First Bonam To Ujjaini Mahakali

Hyderabad, August 2: Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday offered the first Bonam and silk garments to Goddess Ujjaini Mahakali as the State government formally began the annual Bonalu celebrations.

The ritual was performed at 5 a.m. at the historic Ujjaini Mahakali Temple in Secunderabad on behalf of the Telangana government. The Minister prayed for timely rains, abundant agricultural output, prosperity, good health, and happiness for the people of the State.

Speaking on the occasion, Ponnam Prabhakar said Bonalu, celebrated during the Ashada month, represents Telangana’s rich traditions, culture, and customs. He said the government had made all necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival across Hyderabad.

The Minister expressed hope that the State’s welfare schemes and development programmes would continue without any obstacles and sought the blessings of Goddess Mahakali for the overall progress of Telangana.

He noted that Bonalu is celebrated with devotion by people from different communities and religions in Hyderabad, reflecting the city’s spirit of harmony and cultural unity.

Ponnam Prabhakar also said the State government had made special arrangements in view of the expected surge in devotees, including the increased use of free RTC bus travel for women during the festival period.

Recalling the faith of devotees in Goddess Mahakali, the Minister said special prayers were offered at temples seeking protection from natural calamities and for good rainfall across Telangana.

He expressed confidence that the blessings of the deity would ensure peace, prosperity, and a successful agricultural season for the State.
